Just Chillin’

The collection of seeds can continue for as long as you need. However, when you think you have enough get more. Then, after getting more seeds than you think you needed, you might just be ready for the next step.

But is that next step ready for you?

You see, just like some animals go to sleep for the winter, seeds can go dormant through the cold winter months when their needs aren’t getting. When spring comes, hibernating animals wake up and get ready to grow. Similarly, if given access to the things they needs, seeds wake up and start to grow.

To grow the way they need, they need to wake up. But of course, one must be sleeping in order to wake up. So, you can help the seeds get a nice winter’s rest be keeping them cold in a process known as cold stratification. Whether it is keeping them in a freezer or other cold place, collected seeds aren’t ready to grow until they do what they’d do naturally: sleep.
